The Supreme Court struck down a key part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act in 2013 and the impact of that decision continues to reverberate through diverse communities across the US. From awareness campaigns to petitions to highly informative information on racism and voting rights, Ben & Jerry’s is aggressively using their pulpit to help ensure access to our democracy for all.
From Ben & Jerry’s website:
WE BELIEVE DEMOCRACY ONLY WORKS WHEN IT WORKS FOR EVERYONE…
And right now, it’s not working for most of us.
Since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, the landmark civil rights law, a number of states have passed unacceptable voting access laws that make it harder for people to vote – particularly Black people and their allies in the rising new majority such as young people, students, and other people of color. That’s why we must stand together and call on our leaders to not only reauthorize the Voting Rights Act, but to fight back against new laws that undermine our freedom to vote, and ensure a democracy that works for everyone.
